Cyber Crime Police Warn Residents Against Online Investment Frauds

cyber crime police warn residents against online investment frauds

The Cyber Crime Wing of Dindigul District Police has issued a public advisory warning residents about the increasing number of online investment frauds targeting individuals through fake websites, mobile applications, and social media platforms. Officials reported that fraudsters are luring victims with promises of high returns, guaranteed profits, and quick investment opportunities.

According to the police, scammers often impersonate financial institutions, investment firms, or well-known companies to gain the trust of potential victims. They persuade people to transfer money through online payment platforms and later become unreachable after receiving the funds. Several complaints have also involved fraudulent cryptocurrency schemes and fake trading applications.

The Cyber Crime Police have advised citizens to verify the authenticity of any investment platform before making financial transactions. Residents are urged not to share bank account details, debit or credit card information, internet banking credentials, or one-time passwords (OTPs) with unknown individuals. Officials also recommend checking whether investment companies are registered with the appropriate regulatory authorities before investing.

Police have encouraged victims of cyber fraud to report incidents immediately to the nearest Cyber Crime Police Station or through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. Authorities stated that public awareness and timely reporting are essential to preventing financial losses and helping law enforcement take swift action against cybercriminals.
