District Overview
Dindigul District is one of the prominent districts located in the south-central part of Tamil Nadu. The district headquarters is Dindigul City, which serves as the administrative, commercial, and cultural center of the region. Covering an area of approximately 6,266 square kilometers, Dindigul is renowned for its rich history, scenic landscapes, and thriving agricultural economy. The district comprises several important towns and tourist destinations, including Palani, Kodaikanal, Nilakottai, Oddanchatram, Natham, Vedasandur, Athoor, Batlagundu, Chinnalapatti, and Guziliamparai. Agriculture is the backbone of the district, with paddy, maize, millets, pulses, sugarcane, onion, groundnut, and horticultural crops being widely cultivated. Dindigul is also famous for its traditional lock-making industry, leather tanning, textile weaving, and the world-renowned Dindigul Biryani.
